WELCOME

Dear Colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 23rd Conference of the
Society for Medical Innovation and Technology (SMIT), which will take place in Tel Aviv, Israel, September 13-16, 2011.

SMIT was originally founded in order to advance minimally invasive therapy at a multidisciplinary level, in an attempt to reduce patient trauma arising from surgery or radiological interventions. Today, however, the Society aims to attract a broader spectrum of participants, including representatives from most medical specialties, instrument manufacturing, start-up companies, biomedical engineering and research.

Academic, Clinical and Commercial topics will be address at the conference, in an effort to present the latest knowledge available in the various fields.

Israel is an ideal destination for the conference, being at the forefront of cutting edge medical innovation and new medical technologies.

Tel Aviv, located on the shores of the Mediterranean, is a major cultural center in Israel, boasting an array of museums, galleries, and theatres.  Tel Aviv is often referred to as the ‘city that never sleeps’ and many of the city’s bars, cafés, and excellent restaurants are centered around the beachfront promenades. South of Tel Aviv is the ancient port city of Jaffa. Recent restoration projects have transformed parts of the old city into a tourist attraction, featuring beautifully restored buildings, cobblestone walkways and bustling markets, with traditionally handmade goods, souvenir shops and sidewalk cafes.

I look forward to welcoming you to Tel Aviv, my hometown, for what I hope will be both a stimulating and inspiring scientific event as well as an enjoyable and exciting visit.

Sincerely,

Amir Szold, MD
Conference Chairman
